1) Why do I need an umbrella policy?
Umbrella policies are considered by many to be the best value in insurance today. For a nominal amount ($400 for $1M of coverage, for example), you have excess coverage against all manner of potential exposures.
2) Why do I need to have Uninsured or Underinsured coverage (UM/UIM) in my umbrella policy?
The Insurance Research Council estimates that 16% of all drivers on the road today do not have auto insurance (Uninsured). Further, industry estimates predict that up to an additional 30% of drivers do not carry sufficient insurance (underinsured). Thus, as many as 46% of drivers on the road today do not have sufficient insurance to respond in an auto accident. The ABI Group Personal Umbrella policy provides $1M of UM/UIM coverage.
